Future Press Release

Yes, Press Releases are changing! But here I talk about Jeff Bezos (Amazon).

Bezos is famous for requiring teams to act innovative different. One of his leadership tools is the "Future Press Release".

Even books were written about this topic, I would like to keep it short: it is nothing else like a minimized "Published Business Plan" with permanent observed success parameters you want to reach in the future. Something you would give as appetizer to your investors, or for pitching yourself. rep10_2

It is advisable to outline the hard things accomplished, the important decisions, and the design principles that led to success.

Don’t worry at this state how to solve these issues yet, you have still got time to figure that out. This empowers you or your team to make these success parameters happen.

And integrating your team in many parts of this Future Press Release makes it hard for them backing out of the commitments made. It paints a clear vision for them. [329]1921p

Leadership is less about motivating people to act, it is more about choosing motivated people who act.

Next WannaCry with Microsoft?
by @norbertomoreau

Microsoft has revealed massive Windows vulnerability that could bring the next WannaCry and released fixes (CVE-2019-0708) for this critical Remote Code Execution vulnerability. This vulnerability is pre-authentication and requires no user interaction.

Means it is ‘wormable’ and can propagate from vulnerable computer to vulnerable computer in a similar way as the WannaCry malware spread across the globe in 2017. This ransomware cryptoworm used an NSA-developed exploit and spread like wildfire through outdated Windows systems. [298]332

DNS hijacking
by @norbertomoreau

DNS hijacking is a technique that meddles with the fundamental address book of the internet. Means it targets the pillar of internet architecture, the Domain Name System translating the domain name "yourname.com," into the IP address of the computer (i.e. "182.65.124.228.").
Now imaging you visit your bank

and the system redirects you to any other IP other address (which you cannot see) Phishing your data would be easy.
Recently a hacker group called Sea Turtle carried out a broad campaign of espionage via DNS hijacking, hitting 40 different organizations. [311]

GDPR guide after confusion
by @norbertomoreau

The EU Data Protection Commissioner was forced to issue new guidelines as some schools banned photos at events like communions, confirmations and sports days. Many principals issued warnings to parents citing the GDPR Norms.
According to the Data Protection Commissioner

there is nothing under the new privacy rules stopping people from taking pictures in public. However, publishing a photo to a "broad-based audience" is a different question as it "could" become a data protection issue. Only the so called "household exemption" under the GDPR means the "family use" is clear defined. As a result the confusion stays! [313]

Bad bots and their business
by @norbertomoreau

Bad bots are responsible for a fifth of all web traffic. This makes it about 20% of web traffic. Destil Networks issued a Bad Bot Report 2019. They explain what bad bots do and what business is behind them. According to the company bot defenders and bot operators are playing a continual game of cat and mouse.

A few things bad bots can do: web scraping, account takeover, transaction fraud, denial of service, competitive data mining, unauthorized vulnerability scans, spam, click fraud, and web and mobile API abuse. [317]

jQuery JavaScript library vulnerability
by @norbertomoreau

jQuery JavaScript library is affected by the ‘Prototype Pollution’ vulnerability. The library is currently used on 74 percent of websites online. Most sites still use the vulnerable 1.x and 2.x versions which could cause attacks on hundreds of millions of websites.
Read the blog post published by the jQuery team, the latest version jquery-3-4-0 can be downloaded here.

FB Group’s are going secret
by @norbertomoreau

Bots mass invaded thousands of FB groups and posted unpropitious or vulgar content. At the same time all posts were reported with the result that FB deleted or deactivated the group.

So many admins changed to closed groups which additionally gives better moderation options or they go secret to be undiscovered.

Groups explained:
• Closed Facebook groups: require each new member to be accepted by admins.
• Secret Facebook groups: undiscoverable by search, new members need an invitation from group admins.

A FB spokesperson said that they removed many groups violating their policies. But as legitimate, non-violating groups are also affected, they are trying to restore some again. Remembering: weeks ago FB started a campaign to augment groups. [328]

Airbnb digital service provider or real estate brokerage?
by @norbertomoreau

French tourism association claims Airbnb should face same accounting, insurance and financial obligations than real estate brokerage as its services are changing the face of neighbourhoods and need to be more heavily regulated.

Airbnb, which is registered in Ireland, argues that its commercial activities in matching property owners with people seeking accommodation could not be regarded as traditional providers of real estate. France is Airbnb’s largest market after the US, and Paris is its biggest single city market, with about 65,000 homes listed.

A person from the European Court of Justice (ECJ) said the company should be regarded as a digital service provider with the right to operate freely across the EU. [334]

Shenzhen drop Hong Kong housing model
by @norbertomoreau

Shenzhen adopts Singapore housing policy to provide more subsidized homes.
The city, known as China’s Silicon Valley and home to some of the country’s biggest technology companies Huawei, ZTE and Tencent, ranks as the fifth most expensive city globally.

It has transformed itself from a small farming town into a booming modern metropolis with more than 10 million citizens within a few decades.

Shenzhen will offer 1 million governmental subsidized homes at 30-50-60% of the prevailing market rate. They ditched the Hong Kong model, where most homes are built and sold as commercial products in the private market.

As stated Fion He (chief analyst, property brokerage Midland Holdings China), "Shenzhen’s home price has soared too high as more are using homes as a tool for asset gains." [337]2587

Chinese American Names
by @norbertomoreau

In English, Lee and Li are different last names, but in Chinese, they’re written as the same character – 李.
The English distinction is the result of two different transliterations. “Lee” comes from a system of romanization of Chinese characters common among speakers in southern China, whereas “Li” comes from, the standard system of romanized spelling used by Mandarin speakers in mainland China.
